My students enjoy coming to my class as they will feel safe, challenged, get a chance to use their initiative, discuss maths and they make good progress. I am a person that the department, school, parents and students can depend on (a team player). I love to: bring the outside world into the classroom; take the classroom outside; deepen and enrich the student’s appreciation for maths; challenge their thinking which builds knowledge, skills, understanding and improves verbal & written skills. My ability to do the above is based on 20+ years teaching experience, tutoring experience and also experience in the building, hospitality and banking industries.
My wife’s enthusiasm for Parent Effectiveness Training (PET) has drawn me into reading about Teacher Effectiveness Training (TET). Both books are about listening and finding out the needs of any person, whether they are someone you are chatting to or someone who is presenting challenging behaviour, as opposed to the carrot and the stick approach or you have said this now I want to say this (with out really validating what the person has said) approach to communicating with people. My wife is a school counsellor, an adult counsellor & is a trained PET instructor, (www.counsellingwithnaomi.com).
I am passionate about teaching & learning for the students and myself, which my CV shows in more detail (please email me for a copy of my CV - [email protected]. The experience gained from working in five different countries with students from many different nationalities, levels and abilities, who are from a myriad of geographical and socio-economic backgrounds, coupled with my experience as Second in Charge of a Maths Department, and working in industry, gives me a fantastic platform from which to support your school community. My knowledge of maths and teaching of maths means your students and their parents will be very pleased that they have me as their maths teacher.
